In 1892, a young man named Tom Abriel arrived in the fledgling town of Nakusp – a man who would go on to become one of the most influential and energetic leaders the town had ever known. He was a prominent figure, and had a hand in the establishment of many historic buildings around town. Abriel was the honorary president of the Nakusp Dramatic Club, and in 1910 he had the opera house built.

The old opera house – currently Shon’s Bike & Ski – is undergoing renovation and has exposed old boards describing plays put on at the opera house.

The museum has many more original plays, many from the curious E.J. Leveque collection. Comedies, dramas, and every genre of the time to peruse!
